PRIVATE LESSONS in
VIOLIN, VIOLA AND HARP
Hello
Cambridge
Students and Parents!
I am
looking forward to getting to know you and your families and
sharing my great love for music with you!
Scheduling:
Lessons will be scheduled after September 1st.
I will mostly likely be offering weekday evening and
Saturday lessons.
Parent
Participation:
I require a parent to sit in on all lessons and actively
participate by take notes, asking questions and learning
right along with the student.
Students will make remarkable progress when a parent
assumes the role of “at home coach”, helping the student
to develop responsible practicing habits and overseeing the
daily practice process. After the first couple years of
getting grounded, older students may approach me when they
feel they are ready to carry the responsibility on their
own.
Practice:
Students should practice at least the length of their
lesson, every day six days a week. I recommend that students
practice in the morning before school, even if it means
rising earlier. At this point in the day they are fresh, and
practicing will be both more profitable and more fun. I
require all my students to keep a practice journal to log
their practice time, set goals, and chart their progress.
Payment:
Lessons may be paid for on a monthly basis. My rate is $25
per half hour lesson.
Location:
Lessons will take place at 25 Hunting St., Cambridge. There is on-street parking for
Cambridge
families, and room for one car in the driveway for those
from surrounding areas.
Method:
I start beginners with a modified Suzuki approach, teaching
early note reading hand in hand with intense ear training.
Students are required to have a listening CD of their
current music, and listen to it daily. (Some families like
to have two copies of the CD, one for the car and one for
the house!) Vibrato is started early, (about middle of
Suzuki Book 1) and most students have developed
consistent vibrato by late book 2. After Suzuki book 2 I
assess the student's individual needs and decide if the
student should complete the 3rd
Suzuki
book, or move on to more advanced violin repertoire. I try
to give the students music in a variety of styles and
colors. After all, it’s music and it should be varied and
enjoyable.
Students 5 and Under:
Students 5 and under are required to attend a music and
movement class with their parent, to develop the attention
skills needed for private study and to lay a solid
foundation of musical concepts and ear development. As long
as they are enrolled simultaneously in an approved music and
movement class, they may continue private instrumental
instruction. Most children under 5 only need a 15-minute
lesson.
If you have any questions email me at Kmusikbypurple@juno.com,
or call 540-493-2242
Your children are important to me!
I sincerely look forward to providing the weekly
support parents need to empower their children with the many
benefits of music education, while deepening the
parent-child bond.

To Whom It May Concern:
I have known Adrienne and her family for approximately five years.
They are family friends and we attend the same church.
I have found Adrienne to be a poised, mature young lady.
She maintains high standards for herself in the areas of
academics and musicianship, demonstrating great dedication
and self-discipline. Adrienne has studied music,
especially violin, from an early age. She is extremely
talented and has made a name for herself locally and
regionally as a wonderful musician. Her academic
record is impressive; she has maintained high grades and a
rigorous schedule of classes in addition to many hours of
practice and performances. I have known Adrienne to be
a person of good character. She is committed to
maintaining high moral standards. I have observed
Adrienne as she volunteered her time to work with the
children of our church. I have seen her as she teaches
children violin and harp lessons and prepares them for
recitals. I have been impressed with her interactions
with youngsters. She maintains high expectations for
her students, instilling in them the same dedication and
discipline which she exemplifies. Yet, she is witty,
humorous, caring, and encouraging to each child. I
believe she is able to balance professionalism with a loving
spirit, a characteristic of great value for teachers. It has
been a joy for me to know Adrienne. I would recommend
her without reservation. I expect to hear glowing
reports of her future endeavors and successes.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Brenda Hodges
Adrienne
Bassett's depth of musical knowledge is outstanding, and her
ability to convey it to such young students is amazing.
She has been a tremendous influence on my daughter, now 6.
Adrienne has a unique way of inspiring others around her
with her joyous abilities and her persistence in studying an
art she truly loves. Her love for music is obvious in
how she interacts with her students and in how she performs
on stage. She has made music a life-long career and is
serious about what she does. Moving to
Boston
is a big
commitment for her and she is ready for this new venture in
her life. We will miss her here in
Roanoke, but know
that Boston/Cambridge will benefit from her presence.

To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing this letter of reference for Miss Adrienne
Bassett. I have
known her for almost two years now as she has been a violin
teacher for my daughter, Keli.
At the beginning of their time together, Adrienne
made the transition for Keli from her former violin teacher
(who had to move out of town) a smooth one.
Keli had a great relationship with the former teacher
and when I explained this to Adrienne, the way she handled
the situation caused Keli to be unbelievably receptive to
her from the start! Adrienne
has worked with Keli in both individual lessons and group
practices. Keli
has thoroughly enjoyed her time with Adrienne and will miss
her very much. Adrienne
has a gift of knowing how to motivate her students.
She encourages them and challenges them to work hard
and to be proud of their accomplishments.
As in the case of my daughter, she soon realized that
to motivate Keli, she had to challenge her.
My husband and I will also really miss Adrienne and
wish she was not moving away.
She has inspired us with her passion for teaching,
her maturity, her passion for music and her beautiful violin
playing. We wish
her all the best as she moves on to achieve many
things. Anyone
who will be associated with her during this time in her life
will truly be blessed!
Sincerely,
Sarah
