"I was thoroughly impressed by the class last night - I am so glad you make it a requirement to take this when taking the violin! This is going to help Nathaniel in so many ways other than just music."

Thanks, Michelle

Policy Information

It is our privilege to offer your family private instrumental instruction at affordable rates with our Student-Instructors. We currently offer private violin, viola and harp instruction at our studio at the rate of $25 per half hour. The wonderful professionals in our areas charge $45-$70 per hour and unfortunately many will not start beginning students. Music stores throughout the region tell families that they must wait to begin lessons until 7 or 8 years of age or older, yet, professionals rarely want to start even a beginner at this age. We firmly believe that music is a language and that the brains of infants up to age 8 or 9 are especially geared towards the acquisition of language. We just slip in another language to learn – music! Research supports our approach - the earlier the better!

Your private lesson instructors are also solo and ensemble performers of very high caliber, and as such have demanding schedules and can only offer a minimum of lessons slots per week, per semester. Careful planning and thoughtful preparation for your child's needs are put into place at each lesson. We purpose to ensure your child the most empowering, and successful private instrumental training possible. With this in mind, it is our policy that attendance of lessons be consistent, with a parent present in each lesson.

It is essential that the parent take notes in a specific practice log, in order to support the child's learning in the role of at-home-coach during daily practice sessions. We suggest that you and your child practice first thing in the morning. Your child's academic day will soar! These daily practices are to be the length of your child's private lesson, 5 days a week. Your private lesson Instructor in tandem with the Kindermusik classroom instruction will support you quite well in the role of home coach. Please ask any and all questions of your instructor, in order to provide you with whatever level of information needed to feel comfortable and knowledgeable as you grow into your role as your child's home music coach. We are here to empower you to empower year child! (The practice log is available for purchase by our studio families of a local music store of our request. See or email your instructor for details, ASAP.)

Private Lesson Students Up to 7 Years & the PP Tandem Learning Approach

We sincerely appreciate your commitment to music education for your family. We are convinced that Kindermusik classroom instruction in tandem with private lesson instruction will provide for your child an incredible musical foundation and help to ensure a successful and enjoyable early musical experience. It continues to be our purpose to offer our families many Kindermusik enrollment discounts and payment options and in doing so enable each private lesson student up to 7 years of age to also enroll in required Kindermusik classes. We are sure you'll find our approach of combining the dynamic Kindermusik curricula with skillful, knowledgeable instrumental instruction, a purposeful and empowering plan for your child.
All instrumental students under 7 years of age should plan on Kindermusik classes as well. Please see payment options including credit cards and any applicable discounts as listed on the current registration form (on–line at www.purplepossibilities.com, or at the studio) when enrolling in both Kindermusik with Private Lesson.

Private Lessons (7 years & Up) & Required Enrollment in a Studio String Ensemble

We also purpose to keep Studio Participation Tuition rates down for our vital ensemble programs which include, Toad’ly Tuned Stringz, and Klassikal Kidz Orkestra. Enrollment will be required for all Purple Possibilities Instrumental students ages 7 and up, unless still enrolled in Kindermusik Imagine That or Young Child classes. Please read through the string ensemble descriptions (following) and then e-mail your private lesson instructor at Kmusikbypurple@juno.com as to which string ensemble group your child will benefit from the most, before enrolling

Student Recitals

Each semester there will be a student recital with a reception following for the entire studio family and guests. You will be informed of the date and time of the recital at the beginning of the semester and it is very important that each family at Purple Possibilities designates this recital date as a family priority. In doing so you will be modeling and expressing to your children the value of music education and you will be in a position of shared support for one another on this incredibly exciting journey! For those of you with children participating in the recital, making this day a priority will show your support for your child's musical learning in a very genuine way. The recital is their night to share with the audience, not to perform, and we look to parents to be positive and to encourage their child to simply "have fun with their music" as they share with us the exciting music and learning they have accomplished this semester.

Recital Participation: Regular Private Lesson Attendance and one or two practices with a pianist will be required. Please remember to coordinate your child’s recital practices with the pianist, with your instructor.

Concert Attire: As we strive to set a positive tone for your child’s musical experiences while giving the children the respect due young musicians, we will require Concert Dress for recitals. Concert Dress will be clearly defined before each recital in writing, and your cooperation is valued. Please honor your children as they honor you, by also dressing up for their very special evening.

A Night to Remember: A few weeks prior to the recital, you will be asked to sign up to bring some refreshments and to choose how you’d like to help, such as setting up, serving or putting things away.

Private Instrumental Lessons Cancellations

Occasionally, one or more of the instructor's performance schedules may require a week off from Private Lesson teaching. We will post any 'off weeks' in advance on the studio message board in the entry hall and also on the website, along with information regarding your instructor's performances. Checking the website before coming to the studio each week would be a great habit to get into, and you are likely to find extra things your teacher wanted you to know before coming!

Most Roanoke area programs for private instrumental instruction require payment by the month or by the semester and do not offer refunds should you miss a lesson or should you decide to withdraw your child. Your private lesson instructors have made a genuine commitment of time and planning for you and your child. Please bring your child to every lesson unless your child has a fever and please give your Instructor twenty-four hour notice, or payment is expected. If your child is ill, you are welcome to take a lesson in their place. Your child's lesson slot has been held for them and others potentially turned away that needed lessons at that time. In light of this, should you withdraw your child from private lesson instruction for any reason during the semester there will be a 3 week Withdrawal Fee required, and we reserve the option of giving away your child’s lesson slot away immediately upon notification of withdrawal.
